Quilting with Light Applique

Ever thought about adding a little flair to your quilt? Wondered how to use applique when quilting? In this class, participants will create a simple quilt background utilizing Batiks, then will learn how to add appliqued poppies to it, creating a stunning quilt! Approximate Quilt Size - 52" x 62".
Class will run 2 weeks - 3 hrs each class. Participants will work on piecing top, then working on getting applique pieces prepared, placed and finishing stitching them in place to create your new conversation piece!
Cost will cover class and instructional time. Materials needed are purchased separately. Additional purchase of material for backing (60 x 70) and batting (60 x 70) will be necessary to complete your quilt.
Sign up is available in store or on our website. Supplies and materials should be purchased prior to class and brought to class. Students should arrive to class 10-15 minutes early to allow time for set-up.
Needed Supplies/Tools for class:
Scissors, Rotary Cutter and snips (snips optional - but handy)
Cutting Mat - 24 x 36 or larger (self-healing is best)
Straight edge ruler/template - Minimum of 2 1/2" x 24 1/2"
Marking Pen/Pencil
Seam Ripper
Sewing Machine*
Matching Thread
Project Bags or Ziplock Bags - organize pieces
Small Post-it notes or tapes - for labeling
Small Fabric clips
Sewing Pins

- Fabric A - 42 pcs - 2 1/2" strips for quilt background
- Fabric B - 1/2 yd Green Batik - for stems and leaves
- Fabric C - 1/8 yd Red/Orange Batik - for poppy petals
- Fabric D - 1/8 yd Bright Red Batik - for poppy petals
- Fabric E - 5/8 yd - Deep Red Batik - for poppy petals & binding
Students who purchase needed supplies at our store will receive a 10% off discount on their purchase, and 10% off the batting and backing if purchasing from our shop.
*Students with machines should bring thier machines to classes. There will be a limited amount of classroom machines available for those that do not have a machine.

| Skill Details: | Class is for a confident beginner/intermediate quilter. Will learn how to prepare pieces for attching to quilt and finishing applique areas. Students should be able to follow and read directions to creat their quilt. Students will be utilizing scissors, pins, and rotary cutters, which are shard and should exercise caution when handling thsese tools. Measuring and understanding measurements will be used throughoout the class. |
